Nancarrow Farm is a Cornwall wedding venue, tucked just outside of Truro yet seems like a million miles away from anywhere. It’s the perfect venue if you want a rustic, barn vibe for your special day with food and accommodation all taken care of. It’s always a pleasure to photograph weddings here.
I had been looking forward to photographing Nick and Wennas wedding for quite some time after realising how much fun they are on their engagement shoot we did a year prior. Within minutes of meeting them, it became so clear that they belong together. Despite the wedding taking place in November, the weather was hardly an issue.
I arrived at Nancarrow Farm early and realised I was there during a very important game of rugby which both families were fans of. While Wenna and her family had to make do with watching the game on a small phone, Nicks side of the family were all gathered together in a living room watching the game on TV. As always, I started my day with photographing the bride. Wenna was getting ready with her mother and her bridesmaid with the very talented Ione doing the hair and make up. I headed over to catch Nick and his brother getting ready in the main building.
The Ceremony took place in Nancarrows barn. It’s a beautiful rustic old barn/shed and even with this wedding taking place in November, the darkness mixed with the fairy lighting gave it a beautiful atmosphere. As predicted there were smiles and laughter throughout the ceremony and they were met with a flurry of confetti as they left.
Due to this being a winter wedding, we decided to do the group and couple photos straight away as daylight becomes an issue around 5pm. We used the barn as a backdrop for the group shots and then I took Nick and Wenna around Nancarrow Farm for some couple photos. They are simply amazing to work with and require no direction or prompting at all. Nick even had plenty of jokes for us.
After dinner were the speeches where I learnt where Nick and Wenna get their daft but lovable sense of humour from. Nicks brothers definitely stole the show with their post-watershed speech that had the entire place either silenced from shock or rolling around laughing.
We had time for some sparkler photographs and a few more couple shots being creative with my lighting before the day moved on to arguably some of the best dance moves I’ve seen at a wedding.
It was a wedding that I was looking forward to for quite some time thanks to how much of a pleasure Nick and Wenna have been to work with. I’ve never met a couple so well matched as them and I know that they will have an incredibly happy life together.
